Blockbuster Summer

It' s a Blockbuster Summer!

One of my favorite things to do during the summer is go to the movies and this summer will be no different. There are so many new movies coming out this summer that I want to see it was hard to pick a few to talk about for this article.

The first movie that comes to mind is The Karate Kid staring Jaden Smith and martial arts expert Jackie Chan. I know what you're thinking, this is a remake of an older movie, and remakes are never as good as the originals. For the most part that can be true, and I for one and a huge fan of the original, but I have a feeling this version of the movie with open up the franchise to a whole new audience. There are similarities in the plot from the original and this version, as both young boys will try to feel at home in their new surroundings, both become bullied by a classmate, and both are trying to impress a girl, add in the fighting style of Jackie Chan and I'm sure this movie will be a winner. The Karate Kid opened on June 11th in the US.

This next movie, yes I will be super excited to see *fangirl scream* Yes, I'm talking about The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. For those of you who aren't fans, or don't know too much about the current storyline, in this third installment of the saga Edward has returned to be with Bella and she finds herself caught in the middle between the vampire that she loves and the best friend, Jacob, who she doesn't want to lose. All the while the two men are trying to keep the girl they both love safe from another vindictive vampire. Love it or hate it, this movie will definitely be one of the money makers this summer. Eclipse opens up June 30th in the US.

This next movie is more of a 'guy' type movie, but again I was a fan of the television show back in the 80's so I really want to see this movie on the big screen. Of course I'm talking about The A-Team. The A-team is a group of former Special Forces soldiers who were set up for a crime, they of course didn't commit. They go off on their own to figure out who set them up, and to clear their names. From the previews alone this movie will be jam packed with action and comedy. The A-Team reported for duty on June 11th in the US.

Another extremely popular sequel that is actually in the theaters right now here in the US is Shrek Forever After. This movie opened up in the US on May 21st, and has been at the top of the leader board ever since. This is the fourth Shrek movie and is said to be the last, but that's what they said about the last one. In this movie Shrek goes through a middle-life crisis if you will, and make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin asking to live in a world where ogres are still feared. Not enjoying the new Far Far Away, Shrek is left to fix the mess he is created and get his old life back. Will he be able to?

I am a huge Toy Story fan. I can pretty much recite the entire first movie; I've seen it so much, so when I heard there was going to be a Toy Story 3, I knew I was going to see it in the theaters the minute it came out. All the classic characters are back in this tale, which deals with what we were all thinking at the end of the last movie, which is what will happen to the toys when Andy grows up? Andy is getting ready for college and the toys begin to worry about their future without him, while trying to stay together as a family.

Perhaps the oddest movie coming out this summer would be Despicable Me. For the longest time when I would see previews for this movie, I had no idea what it was about, which in turn made me research it more. Despicable Me is about Gru, the main character who is trying to become the world's greatest villain off all time, and to do this he plans to steal the moon. All plans are in order until three orphan girls end up at his door. As he is now in charge of taking care of them, Gru discovers that when these three girls start looking up to him, he meets his own personal greatest challenge. Despicable Me opens in the US on July 9th.

Last, but certainly not least we have a story that has been told many a time before; the story of Robin Hood, which is now playing in theaters here in the US. This movie chronicles the life of the famed archer and what leads him to the village of Nottingham and the eventual meeting of the lovely Maid Marion. With Russell Crowe staring in this film, I'm sure it is more action packed then previous movies about this beloved character who robs from the rich to feed the poor.
